Recipes for V A P P U : Sima

In one week, Vappu, the 1st of May is here!

This means that we are serving special treats at home
If you are interested to try this special drink, have a look at the recipe!

I just made our sima so it will be ready for the weekend.

Sima (mead)

Sima is a sparkling lemon drink, loads of sugar guaranteed but oh, so delicious!

For 4 litres of mead you will need:

4 litres of water
2-3 lemons
4 desilitres brown sugar
3 desilitres of white sugar
pinch of dry yeast OR pea size ball of active yeast

4 bottles, sugar,raisins

Wash the lemons really good with warm water and a brush
(use prefably organic lemons)

Put the water to low heat on a stove.
Peel the yellow part of the lemons, try to avoid peeling the white part.
Cut all whites off (no needed in the mead) from the lemon, leaving just the flesh of the lemons.
Slice it and add the lemons and yellow sking to the water.
Mix in both sugars and heat up the water until it boils.

Once the sugar has melted and the mix is boiling, let it cool down until it's luke warm.
Add pinch of yeast, leave it to rest minimun 1 night/1 day.

Next day, put 1 tea spoon of sugar and few raisins to the bottles.
Carefully start to bottle the sima, using a siever and a funnel.
Be careful NOT to mix the dregs into.
Close the bottles well.

Sima will take 1 week to be ready in cool environment (fridge) or 3 days in room temperature.

We also will make some traditional doughnuts, it's been years since I made these last time.
Last Vappu I made tippaleipä -  kinda tastes like churros but it's more slim and should look like a bird's nest.

 Sima and tippaleipä

I haven't decided yet the whole menu, but definetly making some potato salad and bread cake!
I will post the recipes later this week.

Have a great week, friends!

One.

One year ago, this little ball of fur was born.
We saw her (or he,as we were told it was a boy)first time as she was only few weeks old.
We pick her up to home one summer day in July, she wasn´t ever scared of us, the car trip or our home.
She immediately came next to us,fell asleep there.

Loves sleeping in the bags

and of course at the sofa.

Demanding food even she has some. PICKY.
She has the best quality food and raw meat. Still unbelievable picky.

She puts her paws (and nose) everywhere.

Destroyer.

But so sweet!

I'm forever grateful to R who agreed that I can take a cat!
I wanted a pet for years and he finally gave in.. But I'm sure he is happy about Léonie too.

I used to be scared of cats, I told I was more dog person than for cats.
R always preferred cats from all animals, and I started to change my mind during the years together.
Léonie isn't that kind of cat that I thought cats would be(meaning distant and doesn't care of people). She comes to give cuddles, she knows tricks (sit, go down, roll over) if I scream she comes to see what is wrong and gently touches my face with her paw, she is playful and might actually think that I am cat too.
Do you have pets or is there any you would like to have?
My list is endless what I would like to have, including some chickens, donkey and horses.
Maybe few sheeps too and a huge cage with budgies. Yes a tiny farm in the backyard would be nice.

My week has been, eh, lazy. I was at work twice this week, but the rest of the time I have been just at home. cleaning. cleaning. and making mess. cleaning again. Not really interesting. So I hope to come back next time with some more exciting things ;)

My week

Since Instagram was released for Android, I have snapped my photos mostly
with my phone. It is more easy to carry with me. Even I love to take photos with my Canon, it's not always the most practical to take with me. and I'm in love with the filters that Instagram has, so it makes it even more tempting to use it. All the time.

The bad news is, Instagram was sold to Facebook.
I don't like that much of Facebook, I am in FB less and less, sharing less photos and information there.
So these news didn't make me happy. We'll see what happends..

Making some crêpes for lunch, bacon & cheese for main course and peppermint chocolate-raspberry crêpes for dessert
 ....Having a walk in downtown..

 Love this pony!

 Pope's palace

 My new summer hat!
Actually, my first hat in years!
you know why? My head is tiny, and I mean super small. And I never found hat that is small enough (kids sizes!) and still looks cool (I don't want pink hat with bunnies)
I found the hat from kids department, for boys actually... and I can even write my name and phone number inside the hat in case it gets lost! ha ha!

Drinks with friends at Legend's Valley
That evening there was Jam session, so we went to listen some cool music.
It was fun night!

Flowers from the market downstairs
Did you know, every Saturday there is a small "farmers market" at the square where we live.
Just under our windows. And sundays there is a fleamarket.

Croissants from the boulanger. It's weirdly too straight!

Getting hair fixed at our friends salon Black Orchid
Rest of the dough made tiny crêpes for dessert

Sunny but windy day for biking.

Going for Easter lunch

Asparagus season is here!

relaxing outside

Our Easter was all normal.
With normal I mean nothing special Easter stuff at home, no baking (we're trying to eat less sweets) and we didn't offer chocolates for each other as we knew the parents would offer some anyway. Only thing was the Easter lunch at the parents house and egg hunt. Unluckily (or luckily?) the chocos were all really dark chocolate and for me it's too bitter. Eh, now I am missing my easter chocolate eggs!

 Egg hunt!

How was your weekend and Easter?
Happy rest of the week!

Instagram for Android!

Taken with my Samsung Galaxy S 2

and I just joined there too!
You can find me with username Siniann.

I took the photo to test Instagram while leaving from home to work.
It's rainy day, loving it.
It means all pollen (I'm allergic) will be washed away, easier to breath.
I'm still sick, but working
(I know I know it's bad, but we are just 2 persons here and it's my boss from who I got this afterall)

The other day I went for biking! I am proud because I got myself out, alone, doing sports.
I ended up biking 20km on the island near, little roads betweed apple orchards.
Next time, I'll take some photos!

1st of April

Hello Spring!

I'm glad you are here!
Trees are getting tiny leafs, flowers blooming and no need for wool shirts all the time.
Sun is shining, birds singing.
Spring cleaning!

Since I came back from Finland, I was working extra days to get the working hours back. At the office, my boss was sick and it seems that I got it now too. Unless it's allergies.
In any case, it seems to ruin my decicion to go biking today.

As a Sunday treat, I decided to make a raspberry & banana smoothie. It was delicious, perfect for the coming summers days while the sun will burn - icy raspberries will cool you down.

Maybe I try to go for biking anyway, summer is coming way too fast.. Eek! and I'm still struggling with the extra kilos that I want to lose.

I want to say special thank you for all the nice comments and welcome new followers :)
Please tell me something about yourself!

How life is treating you?
Hope you had a nice weekend, friend!
